Carving skis are a bit shorter than usual donwhill skis with tips and ends that are much wider than the ski's waist. This configuration gives the ski the capacity to achieve a certain curve radius almost automatically - under the condition that you ski on your edges. Carving is not necessarily aesthetic, but what it lacks in stylistic beauty, it makes up for in aggressive acceleration. Legs must be opened to hip-width for balance. One thing to avoid with carving skis is the tuck: even experts gain more speed than they imagined in their wildest dreams. What makes carving even more fun is the fact that you can lean into the curves, like a motorcyclist or snowboarder, which is impossible on conventional skis. The Schlegelkopf is perfect for carving practice - experienced carvers move on to the Kriegerhorn and over to the Mohnenfluh. Or at least theoretically. The trail under the upper Kriegerhorn lift station divides off to the »Palmenalpe« - a fatal distraction. And because Lech skiers often prefer to take it easy rather than attack the slopes first thing in the morning, now is the time for a cappuccino accompanied by a panoramic view and music on the terrace. No wonder the sound of ski boots over wooden planks echoes into the late afternoon. |
