A
BIT OF HISTORY
Lech was settled
around 1300 by the Walser people and began to
open up its mountain world for tourism at the
end of the 19th century through the construction
of the Flexen Road. Lech's concentration on quality
and tradition has been rewarded by membership
in the association of the most famous Alpine resort
"Best of the Alps". Stuben and Zürs
have played an important role in the development
of winter sports. Hannes Schneider from Stuben,
a pioneer from the very early days of skiing,
participated in the very first ski course in Austria
in 1906 in Zürs. The first ski lift in Austria
was also built there in 1937. Today, Lech, Zürs
and Stuben have a total population of 1,700.
